Annoying, but a fact of weblife!

I’m afraid quite a few links to Google+, Picasaweb and Everytrail in older posts may not be live anymore. I will over time update and refresh the links with Content from material hosted on this site.

A lesson learnt – don’t use external sites to host content. It might seem a good idea at the time, but if they cease to offer a service, so does the link to the content hosted on them!

  • A hand-held pano – Chepstow Castle August 18, 2022
Another “technique” shot! High-up on Marten’s Tower, no tripod to hand, can I do a hand-held pano-shot. You bet I can! Really pleased how this turned out. I could have rested the camera on a wall I suppose, but I’d have lost quite a bit as I swung the camera round, so I tried to […]
  • Suffolk in September 2021 August 14, 2022
Most (if not all) of these have already been shared on flickr but I wanted to share them here as well because Suffolk is one of those places in the UK that are quite often overlooked. It really is SO EASY to get great shots if you take your time. We spent a week here […]
  • A lighting challenge August 11, 2022
I always like a challenge and one of the ones I like to tackle is looking out of a dark space towards bright light. Often I might use a pair (or more) shots to merge into an HDR image, but another approach might be to use Exposure Lock on the shadow areas and work on […]

  • Switch-off of analogue PSTN February 4, 2022
This article will record the progress of the planned switch-off of the analogue PSTN (public switched telephone network) by 2025, and its implications to all of our generation, as Openreach moves to implement a fully digital service. The issue was brought to the attention of the Cardiff u3a Computer Group by Jenny Sims, a group […]
  • Keeping safe online June 21, 2021
The threats – real and perceived [First posted 10 September 2020; minor changes 21 June 2021] Luckily, there’s plenty of advice and guidance available – often slanted particularly towards our demographic (ie oldies) … Those two sites are particularly easy to follow and understand, but others are equally informative and targeted. Your bank probably has […]
  • How do you delete photos from Google Photos? April 7, 2021
Seems a pretty easy question to ask. Should be a relatively easy question to answer. Wrong! It’s a minefield of complication and you can quite easily find yourself deleting images from places you don’t want them to be deleted from. In this article I’m not going to even attempt to enter the minefield but after […]
